BOONVILLE – Class 3A fourth-ranked Boonville ran an impressive gauntlet April 16-17 at its annual Southern Slam softball tournament, allowing just four runs in four games in defeating three Top 5-ranked foes en route to the title.
The Pioneers opened with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over No. 4 defending 1A state champion Tecumseh in Friday night’s opener before blanking Wood Memorial, 11-0, to start Saturday off. Coach Mike Wilson’s Pioneers – the 3A state champ in 2006 – then upset 4A top-ranked Center Grove, 4-2, before drilling undefeated 4A #2 Carmel, 6-1, for the crown.
